The Masters in Interdisciplinary Studies (MIS) degree program is a unique graduate degree program. Students work with their Faculty Advisor, Committee, and the Graduate Coordinator to design a program of study that supports their future goals. Two core courses provide graduate level research tools and methods and a common grounding in interdisciplinary thinking and action that draws together diverse fields and approaches. The 21 hour individualized plan of study will include at least 9 hours of courses from each of 2 areas and an additional 3 hours from any area of the student’s choosing. Each student will also take at least 6 hours of Thesis and prepare and defend their thesis. Additionally, each student will conduct a session of the Interdisciplinarity core course based on their thesis. Students in the program share a commitment to intellectual exploration, graduate-level education, and the motivation to learn for a variety of personal and professional reasons. The MIS program office attempts to assist you in every way possible, from the information gathering stage to the application process to the course work and culminating experience and matriculation. Individualized advising, carefully selected classes and program construction, interdisciplinary research, and a commitment to the student are central to the program. The UCF Masters in Interdisciplinary Studies Program is a Full Member of the Association of Graduate Liberal Studies Programs www.aglsp.org, which "is an international organization of over 125 institutional members that share a common interest in graduate-level liberal education."
